Let’s Start Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 1 Scene-wise Review

In the first episode of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba season 3, titled “Swordsmith Village Arc,” the story begins with a member of the cleaning crew finding Tanjiro’s squad after their battle with Gyutaro. This event is seen as an omen by Kagaya Ubuyashiki, who believes that the death of an Upper-Rank Demon will help them defeat Muzan, a powerful demon who has been a blemish on his family for centuries.

Meanwhile, Muzan is furious about Gyutaro’s death and summons the remaining Upper-Rank demons, including Kokushibo, Doma, and Akaza, to his lair in the Infinity Castle. It is the first time in a century that they have all gathered, and their bickering worries Hantengu.

The production studio Ufotable showed off their impressive animation skills in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’s latest episode, introducing the highest ranking Twelve Kizuki members in a visually stunning sequence.

The scene features Akaza (#3), Gyokko (#5), Hantengu (#4), Doma (#2), and Kokushibo (#1), as well as Biwa Woman Nakime, who is the mistress of Muzan’s palace. It’s a breathtaking moment that shows why Demon Slayer is one of the most visually striking anime shows around.

Muzan scolds the demons for failing to find Ubuyashiki and the Blue Spider Lily, expressing his dislike for change and how it leads to decay. Gyokko offers to share some helpful information, but Muzan demands that he first confirm its accuracy and then promptly kills him. Muzan instructs Hantengu to accompany Gyokko to verify the information and departs.

Doma tries to join the mission, but Akaza fights him for disobeying Muzan. Kokushibo intervenes, cutting off Akaza’s arm and chastising him for constantly fighting with other demons. Kokushibo advises Akaza that if he wants the upper hand, he should rank higher. Doma teases Akaza, despite being younger, being one rank higher.

Akaza vows to Kokushibo that one day he will defeat him and become the top demon, to which Kokushibo wishes him luck. The group departs, leaving Doma behind, who sighs and is escorted home by the Biwa demon.

In the first half of Demon Slayer season 3 episode 1, the demons take the spotlight, highlighting their power and setting up the season’s challenges. This establishes the stakes for Tanjiro and emphasizes the difficulty of his mission.

Muzan Kibutsuji and the other Upper-Rank Demons are featured prominently in the episode’s first act, showing their greater presence and heightened danger this season. The monsters are shown to be more unstable, unpredictable, and dangerous than ever before, creating an intense and thrilling tone for the upcoming adventure.

The episode also delves deeper into Muzan’s character, revealing his alchemy skills and his pursuit of perfecting his destructive abilities, intensifying the fear and apprehension felt by both the viewers and the Demon Slayer corps.

Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 1 - Second half

The episode begins with a flashback of a demon slayer with Hanafuda earrings, who babysits a baby Tanjiro while talking to his father. Tanjiro dreams of this memory before waking up two months after the battle. Kanao is happy to find him awake, and Goto plans to wake him up with cake.

As Tanjiro catches up with everyone, he learns that Zenitsu woke up before him and is already on a mission. Inosuke almost died, but Tanjiro points out that he’s on his ceiling. Goto, Inosuke, and Zenitsu are sent on missions, while Tanjiro undergoes rehabilitation training.

He receives a letter from his swordsmith, who refuses to make him another sword due to his tendency to break them. The girls suggest he visit the swordsmith village in person, and Tanjiro becomes excited about the prospect.

In the epilogue, it is revealed that Inosuke spent an entire day on the ceiling, trying to wake Tanjiro up. When he finally sees that Tanjiro is awake, he is touched by the news. Inosuke tries to play it off as if it’s no big deal, but his actions show just how much he cares for his friend.

Tanjiro Leaves for Swordsmith Village

In a highly secured area to prevent demon attacks, Tanjiro is blindfolded and led by several Kakushis to a village. Mitsuri, the Love Hashira, hears his gratitude for the Kakushis and is excited to see a new face.

Tanjiro meets with Tecchin Tecchikawahara, the village chief, who tells him that his swordsmith, Hotaru, is missing. Tecchin blames Hotaru for making faulty swords and threatens to assign another swordsmith if he doesn’t improve. Tanjiro hopes there is no punishment for Hotaru.

At the hot spring, Mitsuri greets and hugs Tanjiro but complains that someone ignored her. Tanjiro cheers her up and sends her on her way. Later at dinner, they wonder if Genya is on bad terms with Sanemi, and Mitsuri and Tanjiro bring food to Genya’s room.

They find out that Genya is missing, and a Kakushi tells Mitsuri that her sword is ready, so she leaves in the middle of the night. Before leaving, Mitsuri advises Tanjiro and Nezuko that the best way to learn is through experience and tells them about a secret weapon in the village that Tanjiro should find.

The next day, Tanjiro searches for the secret weapon and comes across Muichiro, the Mist Hashira, arguing with a swordsmith. Tanjiro realizes the swordsmith is the same person from his dream, and he has Hanafuda earrings like Tanjiro.

Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 1 – Final Verdict

The season premiere of Demon Slayer, titled “Someone’s Dream,” is unique in that it focuses heavily on Upper-Rank Demons. Despite the lack of action, it still manages to feel special due to this focus. The episode mainly focuses on recovery and catching one’s breath, but it still delivers a satisfying premiere. The Swordsmith Village Arc is still in its early stages, yet the characters face daunting challenges and obstacles with newfound courage. This season promises to bring unprecedented levels of bravery and destruction to the series.

Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 1 - Conclusion

We might not see much of Zenitsu and Inosuke in the Swordsmith Village Arc of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, but we did get some closure. Zenitsu is still the same old snot-crying guy, but he’s secretly an expert demon slayer. Inosuke pretends to be tough but actually cares about his friends.

We also got to know more about the Kakushis and the Butterfly Estate nurses, and they were pretty funny. Everyone seems chaotic and wild, from Genya to Mitsuri.

We hope to see more of the Love Hashira in the next episodes, as the demons may be heading to the swordsmith village. It would also be exciting if Nezuko went berserk in her full demon form again to take down the two Upper-Rank demons.
